Giving back to Angel Gowns is as simple as cleaning out your closet.

Giving back to Angel Gowns is as simple as cleaning out your closet.

Some people only dream of angels….. We held one in our arms.

Wedding Dresses to Angel Gowns:

Turning something from someone’s brightest day to help another on their darkest.

Having spent three months in the hospital and living at the Ronald McDonald House in Northern VA with a sick child has this past year touched my life in more ways than I could even find the words to write about. While there I came to love and care about some families who, heartbreakingly, would not be bringing their children home from the hospital. No parent should ever have to buy a burial gown for their child. I can’t even begin to imagine.

While scrolling through a community group I came across someone seeking donated wedding gowns in an effort to start up a Hampton Roads chapter of Angel Gowns by Diane. Almost instantly it was laid on my heart to assist in any way I could. I was positive I knew people who could easily clean out their closet and find formal wear they were no longer using. I clicked this link :

and found out, “The mission of Angel Gowns Foundation is to provide burial gowns for families who have suffered the loss of a child before, during or shortly after birth at no cost.”

So now I find myself here asking you to clean out your closet and donate any wedding gowns, bridesmaid dresses, prom dresses, men’s suits and jackets, and other formal wear that is clean and in good condition that you are no longer using. Any color, style or patterns could be put to good use. The clothes will be disassembled and the material used to create the angel gowns. They make clothes for both boys and girls and use accent materials as well so don’t worry if you are thinking it’s not what they are looking for.

If you do not have any formal wear to donate at this time but would still like to contribute, they are also in need of monetary donations for additional items such as thread, small gift bags, boxes, and tissue paper. AND if you are interested in becoming a local seamstress by all means contact me straight away.

I will be serving as a dress collector and coordinating local drop off/collection sites. If having photographs of your donated gown would be of value to you, I can honor a request made with your donation by writing your name and contact information and attach it to the dress.

For the month of February 2016 Danielle Jackson Photography will be offering petite photo sessions for anyone caring to donate their wedding dress and make a monetary donation to the charity of $100 or more. In an effort to preserve the memories of the dress, these sessions will be of their daughter or granddaughter in their wedding dress prior to the dress being donated. (Please contact me for more details.)

Currently there is a clothes donation drop at Peninsula Community Chapel: 4209 Big Bethel Rd, Yorktown, VA 23693, until Sunday, February 14th 2016.

Should you feel moved to help in any way please share this post and information with any groups you feel may be able to make a dress donation or be a host site for accepting clothes donations for a brief time. Thanks for taking the time to read my blog and for considering turning something from one of your brighter days to help another on one of their darkest.

With Love,

A huge thank you to all of the businesses who have agreed to be collection sites for this charity for the month of February 2016.

We’ve successfully collected over a dozen dresses locally so far and I could not be happier for the program and proud of all my people who have reached out to support this charity.

Should you would care to make a monetary donation at any time please follow the link below and indicate in the notes for the Hampton VA chapter via Danielle Jackson Photography.
